But have you thought for a minute and asked yourself if you really want to blog for sure? Or is it some financial pressure pushing you to try everything you can find online to make some extra cash?

How Does Blogging Work (Reasons You Shouldn’t Be a Blogger)

how does blogging work

Well I will be very honest with you in this post with reasons why you shouldn’t be a blogger. I will as well give some of my favorite recommendations or rather alternatives to blogging.

That is if at all you end up realizing you didn’t really want to blog for sure. It’s totally okay as everybody wants to get something going on the side for extra income streams.

Blogging involves creating content in articles format known as blog posts. After you have written your blog posts you then publish them on your blog and promote them to get traffic. Now the traffic you get is what you monetize.

You can either apply for ad networks and get paid for displaying ads on your blog, promote affiliate products and earn commissions, create your own products and sell to your readers, blog sponsorships etc.

If you haven’t started your blog yet, here is a step by step guide to start a blog on wordpress. However, most of the times people start blogging without knowing exactly what blogging entails.

Below are reasons why you shouldn’t be a blogger plus recommendations for what to do if you feel it might not be a best fit for you:-

1. Source of motivation

The reason number one is your source of motivation. What makes you feel like starting a blog? What will it take for you to blog consistently and not feel like quitting?

Those are just but some of the questions you need to have clear answers about. This is because blogging is not a get rich quick or something short term in other words.

I understand you might have seen monthly income reports from established bloggers and wondered to yourself how possible it is.

It is true the benefits of blogging are awesome but there is so much you didn’t get to know like how long the blog has been running and which monetization methods are in place to be able to generate such income.

It is easy to overlook the fact that during the initial months of starting a blog, successful bloggers do the work consistently with less to zero visitors to their blog. Yes successful because those who quit obviously fail.

Ask yourself if you can be able to withstand that and keep creating quality content without seeing a single visitor to your blog. If your motivation is from a blog post you came across and admired the financial success, then I’m sorry to tell you that chances are you will not go far with blogging.

A month, two months and even more will pass without seeing a single penny and you will eventually give up since your expectations won’t be met.

This is the reason why so many people fail at blogging, having unrealistic expectations and wrong motivation. Don’t let it get to you. If you are considering blogging, let the motivation be from within you.

You should be able to enjoy the blogging process.

2. Blogging skills

In order to start and run a blog, you do not necessarily need to go to school to learn and get certified. Blogging is basically sharing your knowledge or lifestyle with the world.

You own it and you are the CEO of your blog, I bet you haven’t heard of a certificate required to own your business so far. Funny I know. So being simple to start a blog the main focus and difference between the successful and failures is skills and know-how.

Do you have good writing skills? Are you able to create good graphics and images for your blog?

However, you do not need to be an expert in writing or creating blog graphics but it is necessary to at least have an idea of how to come up with good content for your blog.

If you love writing, better for you but if you don’t then I’m sorry blogging might not suit you. Though it depends on what your inspiration is as you can always learn if you really want it badly enough.

So be sure to have a clear answer to if you got the skills or are willing to learn.

3. Support

Naturally, we are social creatures and we love being validated and supported in what we do. In blogging, you will need to be comfortable being alone most of the times.

Your friends or family members may not understand what blogging is so you will be forced to go through those lonely times and get it done anyway. Remember the motivation point;

If you are a person who depends on external motivation then the sad truth is that chances are you will lose it along the way. This is because you will be publishing content and nobody will be reading because your blog is new and nobody knows about it.

In that period of promoting and creating awareness for your blog, you will need to remind yourself of why you started and what your goals are. That is the only thing that will get you going.

If you are the type of person who relies highly on other peoples support, I’m sorry to tell you that it won’t be easy so be prepared to face it.

4. Investments

This point includes mostly the time and money you will need in order to run your blog smoothly. If you do not know something that is necessary for your blog success, you might want to purchase a course and save yourself time of trial and error.

Courses will help you learn from other people mistakes which if done correctly, might get you closer to success in a shorter period of time compared to the bloggers who choose to learn everything by themselves.

Another investment is time. Your blog is not a regular 9-5 job which has time limits of operation. You are the owner of your blog and business owners or entrepreneurs put their business first.

Don’t be surprised if you find yourself working on your blog for long hours and also on the weekends. That is why you need to be sure that blogging is something you want to do as you don’t want to be punishing yourself in the process.

Remember entrepreneurs engage in what they love and feel will be profitable to them. The money aspect of the investments is not as crucial as time. There is no perfect blog and yours is not an exception.

You can start and learn all you need along the way as you continue blogging. But the time is surely an essential one.

Even if you have lots of money to hire freelancers to manage and run your blog, you still will need to understand what is happening on the blog, the progress and which areas need improvement.

So if you are a person who is so occupied and can’t afford to allocate some time for your blog, then it might not be the best option for you. Blog security tips to protect yourself as a blogger.

Blogging alternatives

As I said in the intro of this post, I will be giving some recommendations of what to do instead if you feel blogging isn’t a good fit for you.

1. Affiliate marketing

If you wanted to blog in order to generate quick cash, then affiliate marketing might suit you best. All you will need is promote other people products or services and earn commissions in return.

Unlike blogging, you can share your affiliate links on your social media accounts and generate money that way without the need of creating your own products or starting and maintaining a blog.
